The Uwharrie Point community, The Old North State Club, and Badin Lake combine to provide more than enough social, sporting and outdoor opportunities for a lifetime, yet just a short distance from the peninsula, in every direction, other areas of interest can be found.

The North Carolina Zoo, one of the nation's largest live natural habitat exhibits, is located in Asheboro. Museums, cultural centers, and art galleries pepper the Central North Carolina region, while world-renowned attractions, exhibitions and cultural destinations in surrounding metropolitan areas are less than a day trip away.

The 50,000+ acre Uwharrie National Forest hosts the oldest mountain range in North America, and is a protected outdoor paradise for sportsmen and environmentalists alike. Offering a variety of activities such as camping, bird watching, mountain biking, hiking, hunting, and one of the largest networks of ATV trails on the East Coast, Uwharrie provides a lifetime of outdoor opportunities. Teeming with native flora and fauna, the area is protected so that it can be enjoyed for generations.

Land for the Forest was acquired in 1931 when it was known as the Uwharrie Reservation, and early in his administration, John F. Kennedy designated it is as the Uwharrie National Forest.
