Some Say the Uwharrie Mountains are the Oldest in the WorldUwharrie.gif (38848 bytes)
That makes the Uwharrie Point community a relative newcomer in these parts.  But you'd never know it by the way we blend in with our surroundings.  We've taken great care to maintain the delicate balance of nature within our community.  During the planning phase of the peninsula, project wetlands were left undisturbed and buffers were established to forever preserve the trees and shorelines of our homesites.

You'll find natural wonders all around you, even in your own backyard.  Get to know many of your "neighbors" by participating in the National Wildlife Federation's Backyard Habitat Program.

Baby_dee.gif (37805 bytes)Look for identification markers highlighting some of the thousands of shrub and tree seedlings planted throughout the community.  These were selected for their wildlife as well as aesthetic value.  Uwharrie Point is quite a sanctuary for birds, so our participation in the Audubon Society's Cooperative Sanctuary Program with the U.S.G.A. is only natural.  We have also helped fund studies of bald eagles frequenting the Yadkin River Basin.

Whenever you see bluebirds, purple martins or bats overhead, they're working on our pest env1.jpg (28023 bytes)management team.  Boxes and houses have been installed around the peninsula for their use.  Wood ducks also have twenty new 'waterfront homes' adjacent to community wetland areas.  Badin Lake and wetland natrhom2.jpg (33922 bytes)areas are prized ecosystems.  To enhance this aquatic habitat for fish breeding, water willow has been transplanted among the coves and shorelines.  A buffer zone of high grass was also established on the golf course next to wetland areas and along the shoreline.

Environmental Rules and Regulations established erosion control procedures throughout the community and continue to limit the type and application of pesticides and herbicides used by homeowners.

Our Environmental Management Plan for pesticide and herbicide use on the golf course is approved by state and federal agencies.  Something this beautiful is truly worth preserving - not just for memories' sake- but for your children. Thanks for doing your part to keep Uwharrie Point a natural treasure.
